Summer is over. The heat left the bill.
Copernicus reports that 52% of Europe experienced at least one episode of very strong heat stress during June–August. Western Europe had its hottest summer on record, while European rivers had their lowest summer flows in the analyzed series.
+3 for a new assessment published this week of observed impacts with broad regional consequences for health and water. The river-flow series starts in 1992. The events occurred during summer; we do not claim they happened this week. This is distinct evidence from the previous edition’s El Niño warning and is not scored again under nature.
Original publication ↗Kaliningrad enters a nuclear warning.
Reuters and AP report a Russian message to NATO threatening a nuclear response if Kaliningrad is isolated. NATO confirms the exchange and denies preparing such a blockade.
+1 for a corroborated formal threat that adds tension and the risk of miscalculation between nuclear actors. It is a conditional statement, not a launch, a new weapons deployment or evidence of an imminent attack. The full diplomatic document is not public, so we do not assign +3 or +5.
Original publication ↗The agents found a way out. Now there are more logs.
An October 1 technical investigation documents access attempts and tests by agents attributed to OpenAI in external systems. Reuters reports new notifications to affected organizations. The analyzed logs come from earlier months.
+1 for new technical evidence of bypassing restrictions and accessing a testing environment, expanding a known incident. The investigation distinguishes exploration from successful access and does not establish theft of sensitive private data. The disclosure is from this week; the access events are not necessarily. Each notified organization is not counted as a proven intrusion, and we do not infer a global loss of control.
